The Ultimate Guide to Makeup Brushes & Tools

Any beauty enthusiast knows that you're only as good as your tools. But with the myriad of brushes, sponges and tools out there, sometimes it can get bloody hard to keep up, even for those in the know!

Get The Gloss has published their 'The Ultimate Guide to Makeup Brushes & Tools' and it is the holy grail of 'How-To' when it comes to all things application. Literally - anything you want to know, and even some things you didn't know you needed to know can be found in this handy online guide. Chapters include fountains of knowledge such as The history of makeup brushes, natural vs synthetic brushes, revolutionary beauty tools, brush cleaning, and the up-to-date technology changing the face of makeup artistry. (I've got my eye on the airbrush applicator featured in this chapter!)

This tell-all guide is less than a fiver, so for less than the price of a fancy cocktail you can learn things you never knew about makeup brushes and tools. Find it online here.

All about that Base

The days are getting longer, nights are getting shorter, and I've been mixing things up with my makeup routine.

Purple and Gold

When it's cold, my effort levels when it comes to my look plument as low as the temperature. There's just something so alluring about that extra 20 mins in bed that I would be fixing my face. Something to pull me out of this stupor however, is a strong lip game. There's something about a bold lip that makes you pull the rest of your look up a notch. I love Topshop Lipstick in Inhibition for a statment winter lip. To pull this deep purple lip look off, I team it with Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation - the Holy Grail of coverage, as far as I'm concerned. A bright lip calls for a flawless base, and CT's magic pulls it off.

With purple lips, I use a similar blush to coordinate the look, and to stop myself from looking too washed out. Urban Decay's Afterglow in Bittersweet is the perfect match, with the shade 'Kinky' to contour and add depth.

For the eyes, I use Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in Champagne Diamonds swept subtly under the eye, and lashings of Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara for that doe-eyed look. Perfecto!
