Going Exclusive

Skirt & Top: River Island
Necklace: Miss Selfridge

A few weeks ago, after many days of deliberating and three trips in store to “try it on”, I finally committed to the pink leather skirt I’d been dreaming about for months.
It was great, a perfect fit, I could dress it up or down, it was THE statement piece my wardrobe had been missing. Things went swimmingly, till I saw someone else wearing it on the street.

Sometimes, things just run their course, and as much as you try and pretend everything’s a-okay, there comes a time when you have to sit up, take control, and say “it’s over”. I had a ‘wake-up and smell the bacon’ moment recently, concerning one of the longest and happiest relationships of my life.

A Pretrender's guide to Fashion Week

Day 1

It's day one of fashion week, and as I line up outside freemasons hall, I can't help but wonder why it always seems so much more glamorous from the outside.

Thanks to the ever predictable London weather, I'm soaked to the bone, my so-on-trend rainbow hair is dripping pink tear lines down my face, and my feet are killing me after getting lost down Covent Garden’s side streets.

Girl Meets Dress

Hands up - who'd love some Marc by Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, and Phillip Lim hanging in their wardrobe? More dream than reality right? Wrong!

I recently discovered Girl Meets Dress, a site that offers us mere mortals the opportunity to wear the likes of Victoria Beckham and Burberry, without having to sell your car, or your vital organs.

You simply choose your fave designer garb, decide if you need it for two nights or a week, and hey presto! Designer clobber at your doorstep, for a fraction of the price.

Of course, you don't get to keep it, you instead rent it for how many nights you need. But it's a really cool way to get an extra special dress for weddings, proms, and with London Fashion Week around the corner, I'll be checking it out for FROW worthy outfits.

Reverence Clothing

Hey! Like my tee? I've discovered an uber-cool new clothing brand, Reverence Clothing. This black and white dog design has become one of my go-to tees recently, it's all kinds of quirky and off-beat. There's a few kinds of this design on offer, including a leopard print version for you animal print lovers out there.

I decided to grunge mine up a bit in the spirit of A/W, teaming it with some leather trousers (high waisted of course, you know me!), and a classic beanie to hide my messy mop.

I know a few people were curious, so here it is! This is my winning #CompanyGrads Entry. As you can see I tried very much to have fun with it!

Gorgeous Couture Bloggers Edit

How fatasmical (totally a made up word, don't care!) is this dress from gorgeous couture? I'm constantly on the lookout for fashionable workwear, and this dress fits the bill in so many ways. First of all, I love the contrast paneling. Both are colours I don't really wear that often, so I was surprised to see how good they looked on. Secondly, it fits like a freaking dream. This isn't down to good luck - Gorgeous Couture offer a made to measure service, to make sure your dress fits you in all the right ways. It's fast become a must-wear in my wardrobe, I must admit.

Now, bit of a life update! As regular readers of my blog now, I just moved to London. (Crazy!) It's amazing living and working (well, interning) here, but it means I am SUPER busy. I've been jumping from one internship to another, freelancing in-between, all the while working in a pub 3 nights a week and applying for 'proper' jobs in my spare time. At the moment a normal week for me is a 7-day working week, with at least 1 or 2 days working 12+ hours. Which is bad news for blogging, as, I'm sure you've been able to tell has taken a back seat.

Don't despair though- I'm not quitting! Just a warning that I'm not gonna be able to update as often as I used to, but please bear with me while I get settled in the city!

Location Location Location

It's all about the right background when taking blog photos, so while I was on the shoot for Company Magazine's October Issue I had to get a few cheeky pictures done - how could I resist, the exposed brick wall was just screaming "every bloggers dream" at me!

The thing I love most about London is there are parts of it that make you feel like you've been transported somewhere else, and these studios were so NYC, and spending the day with such awesome people, it was like London's own version of Girls!

Madam Rage Dress Challenge - Part Two

The challenge - pick a dress from Madam Rage and then style it two ways, for a festival and for a wedding. The festival style was easy - but here's where it gets tricky. How do you wear a dress you've been rocking in the mud front line at your favourite bands set to a wedding? Lucky for you, I'm able to show you how.

Dress: Your Eyes Lie, Shirt: New Look

The Vintage Cosmetics Company

After meeting the lovely ladies from the Vintage CosmeticsCompany at the Company Magazine Style Blogger Awards, they got in touch to offer me the chance to review their latest range for boots! I’m actually becoming more of a make-up person as of late (I now own four different eyeshadows – shocker!) I was excited to see what this ‘make-up brush malarky’ was all about.

Confession time, I’d not actually used proper make up brushes before now. I’ve been very much a hands on girl when it comes to applying my make up, and I must admit I’ve been SO confused in the aisles of Boots whenever I approached the brushes section (WTF is a stippling brush anyway?) that I’ve just backed away in despair.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company’s brushes come in such gorgeous packaging that they managed not to scare me off however! I almost didn’t want to open them they looked so pretty. I’ve been using them for a good month now, and I must say I’m a woman transformed. I don’t know how I managed without them! The biggest plus is not having ‘foundation hands’ from where I’ve been ferociously blending in, as the foundation brush does it easily. That’s my fave, along with the double bristled powder brush because it’s SO soft, it’s like brushing feathers, or a really soft kitten over my face. (Disclaimer, no kittens were harmed in the making of this review.)

Another fave is the eyelash curler – I’ve seen these before but never really used them as I’ve never forgotten the urban ledgend of the girl who managed to pull all her eyelashes out using one! Luckily this never happened to me, and I was left with super long looking eyelashes instead.

Before I braved the curlers I tried out the new range of falsies. I’m not normally one to wear fake eyelashes, but some of the range were really subtle and gave just the right amount of extra volume and length. I’m working my way up to some of the more dramatic lashes!

The new range from the Vintage Cosmetics Company is now available in Boots.

It’s no secret that the fashion industry is a competitive business to get into, especially starting at the bottom. You need experience to get work experience these days, and with hoards of girls clambering for the same opportunities, it’s a bit daunting to try and get your leg in the door! I’ve been lucky enough this summer to get placements on both Look and Reveal, as well as #CompanyGrads later this month (eeeee!).

I got both my placements due to cancellations, so they were very last minute. On Look, another girl was a last minute booking like me, while two other interns had had their spot booked months in advance – so it can go either way! In both instances I researched the magazine, found out who I needed to contact and wrote a kick-ass cover letter.

I’ve absolutely loved my time at both mags (I get to spend my day surrounded by clothes, who wouldn’t?!) and I’ve learnt a lot about how magazines are run, and been on some fabulous photo-shoots – and all without making one cup of tea!

First off, early mornings are KILLER. I’m a night-owl, in my student days a normal morning wouldn’t begin until at least 11am. With intern life, by that time I’m on my second caffeine drink of the day and surrounded by bags from Topshop (I did say I loved it, didn't I?) I know I’ll have to get used to it if I want a full time job, but some mornings I just want to sausage roll myself up in the duvet and not come out until it’s dark again outside.

As a fashion intern, the main responsibility is usually looking after the fashion cupboard. This is both heaven and hell for me, as I’m surrounded by beautiful clothes and shoes, as well as getting a preview of what’s in the shops next season! The hell part comes in the form of my dwindling bank balance and the knowledge that I’ll never be able to afford half the stuff I’ve fallen in love with.

There’s a lovely satisfaction that comes when you’ve spent all morning making the cupboard look lovely and tidy, with the shoes lined up and clothes all hanging on the right rails – something that is quickly whisked away when a new delivery comes in after lunch! I honestly don’t know where we found space for all the pieces that come in for shoots sometimes, I think the fashion cupboard at Reveal especially had secret Doctor-Who “Bigger on the inside” logic as I don’t know how we managed to fit half the stuff in that we did!
Photoshoots themselves are so interesting; it’s really cool to see how the pictures in the magazine get created. You do most of the work before and after the shoot – unpacking and packing the clothes, laying accessories out and steaming the pieces to be shot.

And then once the clothes are back from the shoots, it’s the bane of every intern’s life, dreaded returns! I kid, it’s not too bad, but after seven straight hours you do feel like you want to cry if you see another press docket.

I’ve also been writing some stuff for the Reveal website, compiling links for Look’s Ipad edition, and generally doing odd jobs around either office! Yesterday was my last day at Reveal, and I have a glorious week off before starting #CompanyGrads.

Last tip of the day; watch out for the revolving door at Hearst. My clumsy self managed to trip up in it on my first day, great first impressions and all that…

Madam Rage Blogger Challenge

I was challenged this week by Madam Rage to style one of their dresses for both a festival and a wedding. Yikes! Talk about a tricky challenge, you couldn't get two different dress codes if you tried!

To cheer myself up after spending the day lamenting the fact I didn't buy glasto tickets, I decided to style my festival look.

I teame tho dress with my trusty Nikes and a classic trilby hat.

I love this dress, it's so bright and summery, perfect for chilling in a tent or in a beer garden!

Affinitas Review

I’m going to get straight down to it – this is a post about underwear. Look away now if the mention of bras and pants make you blush, I’m talking about lingerie.

Now, I’m really not a fancy pants kinda girl. In my underwear drawer there are knickers that would put even Bridget Jones to shame. I never wear matching sets of skivvies (who has the time for that, really?), and don’t even mention the word g-string to me, lest I recoil in horror.

So when the lovely people over at Affinitas asked me if I’d like to write a review of one of their pieces, I took it as a chance to see what wearing nice knickers was all about.

They sent me this beautiful pink babydoll.   The material feels great, and the bra has a little hidden padding, perfect for if you’ve got the curves of an ironing board, like me!

I wore this one day last week underneath a loose dress, and I must admit, wearing something as pretty as this under your clothes does give you a huge dash of confidence!

In which I lament my awful eyesight.

If you're a regular reader of my blog you've probably heard me moaning about my eyesight. If not, here’s a quick update – it’s TERRIBLE.

I started wearing glasses when I was around 15 or 16, and since then it’s been a tumultuous journey downhill.

At first, I only ever needed glasses at school, to read the board if I was sat near the back, or if I went to the cinema. Seven years later and I’m finding myself squinting to read subtitles on the TV, and genuinely having to ask people the time at work because I can’t read the little numbers on the clock.

I suppose I only have myself to blame. As a teenager I was overly stubborn about wearing my glasses when I needed too. Luckily I’ve gotton over that vanity now, but it’s still SO annoying when I realise I‘ve left them in the car, or at home when I really need them on my face.

I have considered lenses so many times before, but I can’t get over the horrible feeling of having to put something in your eye every morning. Laser surgery might be an option when I win the lottery, but even then I get shudders thinking about letting someone poke around my eyeballs.

Until then, I might invest in one of those glasses chains, so  I never leave mine in a stupid place again.
If you struggle with your eyesight like me, Optical Express has a great choice of Glasses, Lenses and also offers treatment for eye issues like Optical ExpressCataract Treatment

Holy Moly, I'm co-editing a fashion mag!

Super exciting news guys. I've been chosen as one of the final 8 grads to co-edit the October issue of Company Magazine!

I'm still in disbelief...I've only re-read the email about 20 times so far to remind myself that this is actually happening. I found out yesterday during an impromptu shopping trip with the girls. I think I startled some innocent bystanders by shouting "OH EM GEEEEE!" in the middle of the shopping center when I opened the email. Whoops!

I'm so excited/terrified/in shock, but can't wait till next month to get stuck in behind the scenes at my fave fashion mag. Check back to see how I get on!

South Beach Swimwear

This post is so late! I can only apologize. A while ago I went down to the South Beach Swimwear event in Manchester, for some yummy fro-yo, and to check out the new collection. I nearly didn't go, as I was having a miserable day and had an awful cold, but the swimwear certainly brightened up my day! I also caught up with Clara, Victoria and Rosy, it's always nice to chat to other bloggers! Take a look at some of the lovely swimwear on display.

Neon, Floral and Stripes

Super quick outfit post because I don't want to neglect my blog too much! Since my last post I think I have applied for literally EVERY pr/writing/fashion job available, so fingers crossed I at least get one interview!

I've been wearing the jumper/shirt combo so much recently, it's a bit unoriginal but I love a bit of layering, and you can't go wrong with neon pink! (Ok, maybe you can, but that's a different kettle of fish.)

5 Jun 2013

Hello gorgeous readers. I just wanted to give you all a little update on what's been going on the past few days, a rare "lifestyle" post. I've been super busy for the last week or so, and I have so many cool posts lined up.

A few weeks ago I applied for the #CompanyGrads issue. And if you follow me on Twitter, you'll know I made the shortlist!

As you all know, was the Style Blogger Awards last week. Unfortunately I didn't win, but the lovely Victoria from In The Frow totally deserved the prize. Well done Vic! About halfway through the night, I checked my email on my trusty smartphone, and nearly screamed when I read that I had been shortlisted for #CompanyGrads. Cue manic dash to get cheap train tickets back to London!

So on a lovely sunny Monday afternoon, I hopped on the tube to Earls Court. I thought I was going to get lost untill I saw hoards of stylish people bee-lining in the same direction, so I followed suit and found my way to Graduate Fashion Week.

Once there me and the other 13 grads met the lovely Lena and Tanita from Company, as well as Fiona from George. We were set with the task of creating a Company cover from old issues, which was so much fun. I wish every interview included cutting and sticking!

Company Magazine have put up some info about all the shortlisted grads, which you can read here:

This week I've also been flat hunting, and I've finally found a place to live in London! It's a beautiful conversion in East Finchley, and all going well I'll be moving in two weeks! Next on my list is finding a job, which is taking up a lot of my time at the moment (anyone looking for a fashion writer or pr assistant? ;)). I hope I'll be able to blog in the meantime, but if I don't please don't worry - I'll just be busy writing application after application and packing up my millions of shoes.

Lusting for BonPrix

Hi guys! I recently came across a new online site, and I've been lusting after so many things from them since, so I thought I'd do a little wishlist.

As you know, I'm a huge fan of prints, so when I saw a section dedicated to them on http://www.bonprix.co.uk/ I knew it was a match made in heaven.

Dress: £29.99 Trousers: £24.99 Dress: £29.99

How cute are those floral trousers? I love how light they are so they're perfect for summer. I'd style these with a band tee and some light brogues for a casual look.

I've just started my internship at Look mag, so I'm on the lookout for some quirky office wear. So I love this orange shift dress, as it's the perfect combination of smart and quirky. Some people might think orange and hot pink clash, but not me!

The second dress has a beatiful runched detail that would flatter the stomach, and I love the green colour of it! Would look fab with some statement heels and a studded clutch.
